Iris portrait photography is very popular in Europe and a little new to Australia.

Canberra Iris Photography was established in July 2023 by Randal Photography, a Canberra based portrait photographer for the last 30 years. Realising it was something very unique compared to traditional family portraiture Randal was excited to have a regular pop up studio at various markets. Within the first 12 months of operation he photographed just under 500 pairs of eyes!

During that time many clients asked if he can photograph their dogs eyes as well. This proved even more difficult than photographing human. Recently though, Randal has started pet portraits specialising in “Dog Headshots”. “What is a Headshot you may ask? Headshot is a term which refers to head and shoulder portrait photographs that generally unknown actors use in the photography and film industry to get recognised to talent agencies and movie directors.

Randal uses traditional studio portrait lighting so his framed prints are so sharp you’ll be able to see not only the detail in their fur but more importantly their eyes!
